The one-piece cold sculpted glass back, made from a single piece of 1.5mm thick glass, creates a uniform design where the camera island and the rest of the back are forged from the same continuous piece of glass. Through precise sculpting, the glass maintains a greater thickness around the camera module, creating a seamless raised effect while maintaining a smooth, continuous finish across the entire back. This craftsmanship provides both visual harmony and practical benefits such as improved dust and water resistance.
This technique involves a complex 65-step process that requires unparalleled precision. The duration of the cutting process has been doubled compared to standard methods, from 9 minutes to 18 minutes, and the polishing time has been increased by 50%, from 4,000 to 6,000 seconds. In addition, OPPO uses acid- and abrasion-resistant protective oils to produce a two-textured finish - glossy around the camera module and matte over the rest of the back.
